Polyedermodelle geben die idealisierte äußere Form von Kristallen wieder, die im Regelfall an natürlich gewachsenen Kristallen selten beobachtet werden kann. Die Polyedermodelle unterteilen sich in größere, aus Pappe bestehende Modelle und in kleinere, aus Holz gefertigte Modelle. Die aus Pappe bestehenden Modelle sind für den Einsatz in Vorlesungen gedacht. Sie besitzen Abmessungen von ca. 20 cm in den drei Raumrichtungen und sind dadurch auch vor einem größeren Auditorium als Demonstrationsobjekte nutzbar. Anhand dieser Modelle werden insbesondere die Flächenbeziehungen und daraus abzuleitenden Symmetrieelemente bzw. Symmetrieoperation erklärt.
