The "Heiner Müller Archive / Transit Space", affiliated with the Institute for German Literature at the Humboldt University of Berlin, has housed Heiner Müller's estate library since 2000, while the author's literary estate (1929-1995) has been held by the Academy of Arts since 1998. In close cooperation with the Academy, the "Heiner Müller Archive / Transit Space" has become the central point of contact and concentration for Heiner Müller's work. Between 1998 and 2011, the 13-volume collected works (edited by Frank Hörnigk) was produced here, followed in 2011 by the 36-hour original sound recording edition "Müller MP3" and in 2014 by the new edition of his poems (both edited by Kristin Schulz). Exhibitions  - including one on contemporary witnesses to Heiner Müller - as well as various projects and events, often with student participation, facilitate the continued dissemination of the work of the most important German-language dramatist of the second half of the 20th century after Brecht.

Heiner Müller's estate library, comprising more than 8,100 volumes, also includes original furniture belonging to the author (e.g., bookshelves, typewriter, secretary, writing desk, table, Brecht chairs, as well as an ashtray and humidor).

The distinctive feature of an author's library is the evidence of use found in the collected books: Heiner Müller made various underlinings and annotations, and to mark important passages, he inserted numerous written or blank slips of paper (e.g., invoices, receipts, photographs, calendar pages, newspaper clippings, shopping lists, telegrams, bank statements, advertising brochures, admission tickets, travel tickets, matchsticks, banknotes, cigar bands, silver and chewing gum wrappers).
